Collaborate Sites - Day 5 - DFI Online

 LEARN:

1. Connecting with each other

  • People are busy! Think the ongoing changes in lockdown levels even outside of Auckland has had an impact on peoples' energy levels that we don't really recognise yet. People are tired.

2. Connecting with Manaiakalani:

  • Visible Learning - kaupapa words - the joists of the floor... hold it all up
  • Visible teaching and learning
  • Either you can see it... or you can't see it
  • Is it visible to the learner, whānau, teacher and my colleagues
  • Failure because we've kept the learning journey 'hidden'?
  • Wandering through a maze... the journey for many wanting success
  • Cultural Capital... knowledge begins at home with parents that have been successful at school
  • Every part of the learning journey to be visible to the learner
  • 'No Surprises' is the heart of every effective organisation... why do we withhold things from our learners?
  • Visibility at all kinds of levels
  • Passwords... is this password truly necessary? What is actually being protected?
  • A change of mindset

3. Deep Dive:

  • Multimodel communication reaches them, suits them and engages them
  • opposite side of the spectrum to one size fits all
  • Part of job is selling the love of learning
  • Home page should have that 'wow' factor that draws learners in - it's your shop front window... hooking students in visually
  • Multimodal design for behavioural engagement / Mult-textural design for cognitive engagement

4. Hapara Hot Tips #4:

  • Sharing Tab - unshared/public/external/all docs/trash
  • Do a regular Drive tidy

5. Explore:

  • Looking at some class sites

6. Chalk 'n Talk

  • Introduction to Google Sites
  • Buttons!!! Oh how I love thee! Especially using ColourPick to match colours!
7. Explore:
  •  What a fabulous resource. Need to share with every teacher I know!
8. Online Levelling Up:
  • We were working in groups to research a topic to create a Google Site from scratch. I got a bit confused about the big idea here as we moved between the Multi-Text Database, Jamboard and Google Sites so didn't develop my new site very thoroughly. I am confident that I know can navigate around Google Sites quite well. But it didn't come together at all well today. Never mind... tomorrow is another day!
CREATE: Making meaning of content
  • Create a multi modal site for your learners
SHARE:

This will be a work in progress as I want to tinker around a bit more with my Acids and Bases Site... so watch this space!

  • Blogging Tips - Labels - Do this already, if I remember too...

  1. Kia ora Meryn,
You are right, we really are feeling like the term is ticking by and there is a lot on. I hope the launch went well yesterday. The photos I saw come through looked like a great turnout! One of the reasons why we have two sessions on sites is to allow our participants to have time to explore what is possible and to create something meaningful. I'm sure by the end of next week's session you'll have had much more a chance to explore and create in that space.

To support my learning I ask that you comment as follows:
1. Something POSITIVE - begin with a greeting then say something you like about what I have shared
2. Something THOUGHTFUL - a comment that will mean something to me to let me know that you read / watched or listened to what I had to say. Please use any language.
3. Something HELPFUL - give me some ideas for next time or ask me a question
Encourage me to make another post.
